EAGLE WEB WEBSITE PROMOTION NEWSLETTER This Months Topics: Go.com shutting down! Altavista changes page submission process! ****************************************************** Go.com is shutting down / About.com will take its place on our reports! If you haven't already heard, Disney's Go.com Web site is scheduled to shut down around the end of February because of financial and management issues. We'll continue to support the engine until they officially pull the plug on the site. We plan to replace Go.com with another popular site called About.com. According to Media Metrix they have grown steadily in the last year and are now the 6th most visited Web site on the Internet with 22 million unique visitors in January 2001. Many of us will miss Go.com (originally Infoseek), but the Internet changes so we must change along with it. Based on popular request, we'll be splitting AOL into two engines, Web Sites and Web Pages. We'll also split up NBCi so you can compare your directory listings against your optimized Web page listings like you do with Yahoo. Other enhancements are on the way so stay tuned! We don't have a precise date on the new engine additions but we expect to have the programming completed very shortly and we will update you on your reports. AltaVista changes submission Process AltaVista changed its submission system recently and is testing a new method that may allow it to no longer accepts automated submissions. With the new process, you are given a code which you must include in the submit form. This allows you to submit up to five URLs without reentering the code. This new process uses an image instead of HTML to display the code, thus, preventing software programs from reading and inserting the code automatically. The characters are hard to read, preventing optical scanners from reading the code. What does this mean for our clients? Improved service. Since, we don't cloak and provide pages with content, our services should not be impacted by these changes but helped because it will remove all those spamming services from Altavista. http://www.altavista.com/ and click on "submit a site" at the bottom of the page *********************************************************** Well, we hope you enjoyed this installment of the Eagle Web Newsletter.
